A Fighting Man of Mars Edgar Rice Burroughs 9781541032972 Books

A Fighting Man of Mars is an Edgar Rice Burroughs science fiction novel, the seventh of his famous Barsoom series. Burroughs began writing it on February 28, 1929, and the finished story was first published in Blue Book Magazine as a six-part serial in the issues for April to September, 1930. It was later published as a complete novel by Metropolitan in May, 1931. The story is purportedly relayed back to earth via the Gridley Wave, a sort of super radio frequency previously introduced in Tanar of Pellucidar, the third of Burrough's Pellucidar novels, which thus provides a link between the two series. The story-teller is Ulysses Paxton, protagonist of the previous novel, The Master Mind of Mars, but this story is not about him; rather, it is the tale of Tan Hadron of Hastor, a lowly, poor padwar (a low-ranking officer) who is in love with the beautiful, haughty Sanoma Tora, daughter of Tor Hatan, a minor but rich noble. As he is only a padwar, Sanoma spurns him. Then Sanoma Tora is kidnapped, and the novel moves into high gear.

Mr. Burroughs as usual is immaculate in his story telling. Transfixing is the effect of it. I truly wish to meet him in the next life, to find and hear of the others of his stories!!!!Product details

from the author who brought the world the Tarzan stories this selection of Barsoom legends, with many installments, is recommended for those who want escapist reading
I've been a fan of Burroughs for 50 years, he was a superb tale weaver. This book was a very enjoyable read.
I first read this book when I was 12 years old. I am now over 50! I love this book. This is about the 3rd edition I have purchased because I read it over and over again.
Like all the Burroughs books "A Fighting Man of Mars" continues the story of how things are going on Barsoom, with a new character, Tan Hadran of Hastur. This is another story where the good guys are really really good and the bad guys are really really bad and the good guys and true love win out in the end. Lots of fun action and adventure to read about.
Never one to disappoint, Edgar Rice Burroughs writes a scintillating take that makes you both relate to the main character and want to smack him for being dense.
Even though this is an old book, written quite a few years, maybe, decades ago, the story is still a good one. I happen to like Sci-Fi, space, adventure, action movies and book.
The writing it self is poor, but I thought that the adventure story line was good. I've had hard copies of all the Martian books, they are falling apart, so this is why I got them on my kindle, so I can reread them without hurting the actual book.
Well this was refreshing. Not only was the main love interest NOT a ravishingly beautiful princess, she was described as boyish and tough. This was the first book in the series where the female protagonist fights side by side with the male lead instead of standing behind him singing the city battle hym. On the other hand, she did get captured and needed rescuing and the usual unlikely coincidences that move Barsoom stories forward abound. A nice afternoon read as long as you keep in mind the era when it was written.
Mr. Burroughs as usual is immaculate in his story telling. Transfixing is the effect of it. I truly wish to meet him in the next life, to find and hear of the others of his stories!!!!
